“In elementary school, we used to go to the writing lab and peck out stories on the computer. I loved doing that. I got really great feedback from my teachers, and from that point, I felt like I was a good writer. In my senior year of high school, I had an AP English teacher that didn’t like my style of writing. He called my writing choppy. I would go to him and ask, ‘Why is this choppy? Explain to me how I fix this.’ He couldn’t articulate that for me. I remember coming back and working on my undergrad in journalism and telling him that I was a writer. He was supportive, but that choppy comment on my paper made me so angry that it stuck with me.”

Ashley Yuckenberg is a professor in the School of Business.
