“We’re trained to be scientists; we’re trained to do science, that’s what we do, right? We design experiments and run experiments and discover new things about the world!  So that’s what I thought I was, right? I thought I was a scientist and bacteriologist and microbiologist. And it just didn’t occur to me that actually, if you came to my office and looked at what I did everyday, sitting on my butt and typing on my computer everyday, all day, I write reports, emails, papers, and edit grants. I write every day, every day.

Monique Van Hoeck is a professor in the School of Systems Biology and has an appointment in the National Center for Body Defense and Infectious Diseases.
