“Formal writing is hard, but the thought process that has to go into it is harder. When I’m free writing I don’t have to keep in mind the punctuation or grammar, but at a graduate level you have to be more strict on your writing. You have to know what you’re doing and you have to present it to people. That is hard to do because you’re writing about something important to you and that makes you vulnerable, but that is the best type of writing.”
