“The difficulty with writing is that writing is the opposite of teaching. In teaching you are looking outward: you want to deliver the information to students, you have an audience, you want to make sure they understand. When you sit to write, analytical writing or even creative writing, it’s really inward, you need to block [out] the world.”

Amal Amireh is an Associate Professor who teaches Middle Eastern, Arabic, and World literature.
