“Write what you want to write and don’t worry about what it’s saying just yet. I think we so badly want to be seen as serious writers and we worry if we are not 100% on top of our game that means we’re not 100%. Instead, look at it as ‘well no, this is a good start and this is how I could expand.’ And be open to that, I think. There’s times I really feel pressure to be a good writer…And those are the times I don’t think I’m a good writer: when I put that pressure on myself and it’s mis-guiding. I’m trying to help myself be a better writer…and if you’re not writing, you’re not a better writer. So just enjoy the process.”
