Writing Assessment Scoring Criteria

 

Writing Competency in the Department of Dance will be met when a student:

  1. Shows a serious, thoughtful attempt to understand dance. Discusses the meaning of the dance using mature, sophisticated ideas.

  3. Uses imagery (vivid "pictures" in prose — simile, metaphor, concrete adjectives, or active verbs) and are able to relate this imagery to the intent of the dance. Uses terminology related to dance performance.

  5. Displays opinions/ideas that are well-supported using specific examples from the dance. Gives sufficient detail and depth to support opinions/ideas.

Demonstrates clear organization and includes an introduction which provides a context for the whole by including relevant information such as program information, title of work, composer, etc; and a conclusion which reflects on the overall experience or provides the bigger picture to end the piece.

  9. Pays attention to technical correctness (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and paragraphing).
