Rubrics for Assessing Writing

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Job Outlook 2009, excellent written communication skills are especially needed in organizations. When screening new graduates to determine if their qualitative writing skills meet or exceed an employer's expectations, students should be able to demonstrate:

  • clarity and conciseness of language
  • ability to communicate in a clear, well-organized manner
  • ability to support his/her recommendations with data
  • selection of language and method of communication appropriate to the intended audience
