A Culture of Writing
Chief among the accomplishments of which Mason is justifiably proud is the robust culture of writing that has been created and fostered over the years by faculty, academic departments, and higher administration, all of whom share a commitment to student writers and writing in disciplines. In addition to the academic departments, many other units play an integral role in this culture: the University Libraries, the Center for Teaching Excellence, Institutional Assessment, the Office of University Life, Technology across the Curriculum (TAC) and Critical Thinking across the Curriculum (CTAC). Of the latter two, the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education notes, "Writing Across the Curriculum, which has brought Mason such positive national recognition, serves as the model-- one could almost say the rubric--for a series of other "Across the Curriculum" initiatives that, together, are moving us toward a more coherent approach to the undergraduate curriculum."
