Writing Assessment Scoring Criteria
Writing Competency in the Department of Dance will be met when a student:
- Shows a serious, thoughtful attempt to understand dance. Discusses the meaning of the dance using mature, sophisticated ideas.

- Uses imagery (vivid "pictures" in prose simile, metaphor, concrete adjectives, or active verbs) and are able to relate this imagery to the intent of the dance. Uses terminology related to dance performance.

- Displays opinions/ideas that are well-supported using specific examples from the dance. Gives sufficient detail and depth to support opinions/ideas.

- Demonstrates clear organization and includes an introduction which provides a context for the whole by including relevant information such as program information, title of work, composer, etc; and a conclusion which reflects on the overall experience or provides the bigger picture to end the piece.

- Pays attention to technical correctness (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and paragraphing).
